Everyone has something they are passionate about. No, I’m not talking about your spouse or significant other. I’m talking about something (hobby) you can turn into profit, cold cash. So what are you passionate about? For example I like model trains. IF you have read about me you’ll know that almost my whole family (men) worked on the railroad. I grew up with trains so I kinda like’em. What trips your trigger?
Cars?
Boats?
Model trains, planes etc?
Music?
Crafts? (quilting, scrapbooking, etc)
Garage sales?
Anything?
Whatever it is we are going to turn your passion into hard, cold cash. But first you need to find out if your passion is even a profitable market. Usually any market can be profitable but one way to know is to “google” your passion. Let’s use “beginners quilting” for our example.
Anytime you “google” a possible niche’ (audience or group of people, hungry buyers ready to give you money) look for Google Ads. Sharp minded marketers do NOT spend money on niches that do not produce sales. As you can see on the right “beginners quilting” sports paid advertising so somebody is making money. That means you could too.
Keyword Research Made Easy
One of the things you are going to NEED to carry out BEFORE building your first site is to choose a “keyword” or preferably a “keyword phrase” to build your site around. Let’s say I was building a free site and I wanted it to be about my love for model trains. I might choose trains or model trains but those are not exactly good choices. They are both too broad, too general. So what is it I like about model trains?
I like to play with them! But …
Before I can play with them I have to build them don’t I? So maybe something like “building model trains” would be a good keyword phrase. Let’s check that out shall we?
As you can see the keyword phrase “building model trains” is a definite possibility and I’d probably go for it even though my competition is strong. There isn’t a lot of competition, only 37,100 sites BUT that competition is Barns and Noble, Amazon and Wikihow. I may have trouble gaining the #1 spot on page 1 and that is what you want – top billing, page 1 of Google.
For a brand new, green as grass newbie to affiliate marketing a better keyword phrase is “building model trains from scratch.” If you Google “building model trains from scratch” you’ll see there is less than 370 sites in competition and there are Google ads – they are at the bottom of the page. It is a practical, easily dominated keyword phrase and can be used to get you ranking for the harder key word phrase “building model trains.”
You should be wondering HOW I found the keyword phrase: building model trains from scratch. When I checked building model trains Google gave me other keyword phrase suggestions.
All I did then was check it out just like I did the keyword phrase: building model trains. You’ll notice there was another good suggestion: building model trains for beginners. That may be a phrase I’d want to check out as well IF I were doing a site for building model trains. I might find that building model trains for beginners is even a better keyword phrase for a site title. It actually is and if it works out via research that is the title I’d probably choose.
It isn’t how hard you work but how smart you work! So …
Choosing Your Site Name And URL
Listen up this is important stuff.
When you start to build your first free site on the Wealthy Affiliate platform the wizard is going to ask you to choose a URL. This URL is IMPORTANT. You want your KEYWORD or KEYWORD PHRASE in that URL. AND the title of your site should match your URL. For example:
IF I were as green as new grass I’d choose “building model trains from scratch” and write enough quality content that I’d easily DOMINATE the first page of Google for that keyword phrase and I’d choose it for my first site’s URL. My URL would be: http://buildingmodeltrainsfromscratch.siterubix.com AND the name of my site would be: Building Model Trains From Scratch – OR …
You could take a swing at “building model trains” and have the URL be: http://buildingmodeltrains.siterubix.com with your site name being: Building Model Trains.
It’s up to you.
IF you chose buildingmodeltrains.siterix.com you could use “building model trains from scratch” as the keyword phrase for your static front page title or your first blog post title.
Do I practice what I preach?
As a matter of fact I do.
What is the title of this blog post? It’s Learn Affiliate Marketing For Free, is it not? I researched “learn affiliate marketing for free” just like I showed you to do with “building model trains” and here’s the proof.
As you can see the address bar has “learn affiliate marketing for free.” That keyword phrase has a competition of 5,360 sites which should be easily dominated since there are no “big dogs” in the top ten. There are also ads both top and at the right of the page so somebody thinks the phrase is worth money. I USE the same steps for building sites and where did I learn this stuff? I learned it at Wealthy Affiliate! And …

Creating Quality Content
After you have your first URL chosen and your site ready for content you then have to create that content. In other words you need to start writing articles also known as pages or posts.
That is why your first site should be about something you are passionate about. Usually when someone is passionate about a sport, hobby, or cause they know tons of information about that subject. That makes it easy to write quality content and quality content ranks, attracts quality website visitors, build expert status (brands you) and makes you money.
Writing your first piece of content should be easy if you have selected a niche’ based on your passion. Just start writing. You can work out the kinks after your first article is drafted. Once drafted you can re-read it looking for errors (spelling), correct anything you don’t like, add stuff you left out etc.
Once you are totally satisfied with the content you can then publish it and viola!
